I promised not to tell this this story so, against my better judgement, I will break that promise. I will just keep the identity of my companion secret by attempting to give the least possible detail. Here it goes...In my recent desire to improve my Dark Knight, I took a break from Beasting and decided to dedicate my free time to Meriting, to work on finishing my Scythe Skill Merits. While campaigning on Sunday, I actually got a party invite so I headed out to Bhaflau Thickets. After about 3 hours and about 2 replacements, our tank had to leave. I asked in shell if any WAR/NIN's or NIN's wanted to merit. My bearded mentor raised his hand. After about 15 minutes, he was there at camp on his Ninjar. To his luck, or maybe it was Destiny, one of the Samurai in party had to leave also and our Corsair disconnected. About 15 minutes later, we just disbanded party.
My friend, who also has BLM, asked me if I would mind camping "an Antican NM that drops a cloak" that he was interested in. I immediately knew he was talking about my old aquaintance, Centurio X-I. So, we set out to Quicksand Caves on my Thief and his Ninjar/Dancer, he strongly dislikes changing jobs. We defeated our first Antican Signifer place-holder and then I started my usual slow but steady fighting of the other Anticans just so I always have an Antican to Steal from every 5 minutes. My action-hungry friend went on a frenzy, killing everything, even the worms and spiders who don't bother anyone. What did I do? I helped him! :D After all, there were plenty of Anticans to steal from in the other rooms.
After defeating our second place-holder, my companion was already getting anxcious. For a Thief, he is very impatient. -_-; After another round of chaos and destruction, the next place-holder was about to be up so we headed back to Centurio's crib. Low and behold, Centurio X-I popped! He had never popped that fast before... I wonder if he had it all planned all along. I use my uber-awesome-claim-god-of-all-crossbows, the Leo Crossbow +1, and get claim on Centurio. There were no counter campers, but I always like to be safe. We engage Centu and begin what is going to be an easy fight. I do Sneak Attack + Dancing Edge for about 30% of his life and quickly change to my Treasure Hunter 4 gear. Maybe now he will finally drop the Scroll he owes me, and my companion's Shaman's Cloak.
Here is where Centurio pulled his cheapest trick ever. He casts Sleepga successfully sleeping bearded Ninja and me, and wiping our shadows. Then, immediately, he starts casting Tornado on my companion. There were about 3 Anticans close by who were very conveniently NOT linking, which would have been a blessing as they could've waken up poor Ninja with a hit or two. So, after about 30 seconds of utter suspense and just plain laughter from the irony of it all, Centurio finished casting his ancient spell and one shotted my companion to the floor.
It wasn't a big deal, Centurio was only at 10% health, which I could easily down. It turned around and woke me up. I tossed shadows and began my final assault. All I needed to do was defeat it, pass on the Cloak if it dropped and my friend would get it. Thats when he shared the wonderfull news that his inventory was full, which meant the Cloak would drop to the floor if I passed it. This also meant that, in order for him to get the Cloak, I would have to somehow keep Centurio alive while Ninjar homepointed and came back to zone. So, I decided I would kite Centurio and, conveniently again, three Antican that just then decided to link. My heist was quickly fumbled by a -ga spell that pushed me down to about 350 HP. :( I kept running, taking a couple of hits on the way. Seeing my health at about 80 HP, I decided to Flee in order to put some distance between me and the pursuers. At this, Centurio tossed a quick Tier I nuke and took me down. Its like he had planned it all along. He had been secretly plotting his revenge.
So, this level 58 Notorious piece of shit put us to shame. I could have had him, but nooooooo, my friend had to have his inventory full... Probably from all that mindless killing we were doing between place-holders. He homepointed and came back on his White Mage level 43 to Raise me, in hopes we could quickly recover and take Centurio down. When I only had about one minute on Weakness, some Red Mage punk showed up and claimed Centurio. I didn't even try to out claim her, since Centurio could probably easily one shot me with a -ga spell under my weakened state. I asked the Red Mage what item she was after. She responds that she was on her way to Titan. -_-; To this I quickly mention that my friend desires the cloak and tossed her an invite. She never responded. -_-;;; And so, Miss Red Mage defeated Centurio and we had no choice to but to teleport out, vowing to never share this tale...
Soon after, my companion had the great idea of going to Cape Terrigan to steal Gold Coins from Goblins over there. Both going on Thief, this could potentially be a good gil making venture. Adding insult to injury, it was a complete failure. After three failed steals each, we called it quits and warped out of there. XD
I noticed that it was close to Misareaux Coast's fog window so I headed out there in hopes to catch my elusive friend, Odqan. To my surprise, down came the fog and up came Odqan! I quickly claimed him with, one guess, my trusty Leo Crossbow +1 and engaged. Afraid a single good Dancing Edge would decimate the Notorious cluster, I swapped to my TH4 early in the fight. His panties would FINALLY be mine! The fight was A LOT easier than I remember it on Summoner. I just stood there, stabbing at it. It barely hit me and went down without even blowing any of its bombs. Something was off about the whole ordeal so I wasn't surprised when all he dropped was another Atlaua's Ring. I am 0/9 on the subligar now so, maybe, tenth time is the charm! T_T
So, I called it a day, looking forward to my next night at Misareaux Coast and my new found interests in Campaign and Meriting.
